Around the world, freedom of expression on the issue of Palestine is increasingly under threat. Academics and students have been targeted, union members sued, and in France, demonstrations have been banned. Now, Urgence Palestine—a prominent association—is facing the threat of dissolution.
Founded in October 2023 to unite France’s growing solidarity movement, Urgence Palestine quickly mobilized support, gathering over 200,000 signatures in opposition to the government’s attempt to shut it down.
As the genocide continues—marked by relentless bombings and a worsening famine orchestrated by the Israeli state—this move underscores the French government’s alignment with that state’s policies.
Ultimately, the courts will rule on the legality of this decision. But we know that justice is shaped not only in the courtroom, but also by the strength of public support. In this context, European Trade Union Network for Justice in Palestine stands firmly with Urgence Palestine and denounces the unjust actions taken against it.
As the French trade unions CGT, FSU and Solidaires already have, we call on unions, associations, and all people of conscience to sign the petition in support of Urgence Palestine: http://stop-dissolution.fr
